Viatel is a business communications service provider, delivering a comprehensive portfolio of IP services.
With a wholly-owned backbone network running through the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland, Viatel provides both managed and unmanaged services, through our own sales force and our indirect channel partners.
In 2003, Lucy Woods (former CEO of WorldCom EMEA), was hired to build a new management team and establish the company as a leading European player.
Under Lucy’s leadership, Viatel re-created the group strategy and has in the first phase (2003-2006) successfully leveraged our core IP networking capabilities to offer a leading edge internet service portfolio to our retail customers.
Viatel’s revenues increased from $14.0m in 2004 to $20.6m in 2005, a 47% like for like growth in the Company’s year-on-year revenue.
These results reflect the successful development and growth of our Broadband, Leased Lines, Managed IPVPN, Hosting and VoIP services, plus the continued investment in the Company’s retail business.
Since 2004, funding of $90m has been raised from Viatel’s investors, led by Morgan Stanley, demonstrating their commitment to the Viatel business and their support of the outlined strategy and network investment.
This additional funding, combined with the continuing improvements in operating performance, sees Viatel and VTLWaveNet well positioned for success in the current market.
