In 2006 Viatel enhanced its network reach with metro fibre in 8 additional European cities and made a multi million dollar investment into the European backbone network with next generation DWDM equipment from Huawei.

Viatel’s new wholesale company, VTLWaveNet, was set-up early in 2007 to exploit the combination of this advanced European network with metro fibre reach, enabling us to offer customers managed IP and network services into the main Data Centres, Carrier Houses and Internet Exchange points.

VTLWaveNet’s European wholesale service portfolio includes Wavelengths up to 40Gbps, Leased Line up to STM-64, IPVPN, IP Transit, Ethernet, Co-location and Dark Fibre. VTLWaveNet’s key market segments are the Wholesale Carrier, ISP/ASP market. 

VTLWaveNet’s core activities include owning and operating this extensive European long distance network (6,800 km fibre route) in the UK, Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.  We also own and operate metro networks in the main European business centers. In addition, The VTLWaveNet fibre (wholly owned diverse subsea cables) between UK and continental Europe avoids the Channel Tunnel and the Docklands and therefore provides redundancy to most other providers.
